SS-31
Elamipretide / Bendavia
A mitochondria-targeted peptide that concentrates inside the power plants of your cells. Designed to restore mitochondrial function, which declines significantly with aging.
Also known as: Elamipretide, MTP-131, Bendavia, SS31
- Status
- SS-31 is in Phase 3 clinical trials and not approved.
- Evidence
- Human trials. Published clinical trials in people report results.
- Half-life
- ~4 hours
- How it's taken
- Subcutaneous injection or IV infusion
- Mechanism
- Mitochondrial / longevity
- Pathways
- Mitochondrial
How SS-31 works
Crosses cell membranes and selectively accumulates in the inner mitochondrial membrane, specifically binding to cardiolipin. This stabilizes the electron transport chain and reduces the oxidative damage that damages mitochondria over time.
