RAD-140
Testolone
RAD-140 is a selective androgen receptor modulator, a small molecule originally developed by Radius Health and investigated for breast cancer and for muscle wasting. It is not approved anywhere and is sold as a research chemical.
Also known as: RAD140, RAD 140
- Status
- RAD-140 is a research compound and not approved by the FDA for human use.
- Evidence
- Early human data. Only small or early-phase studies in people so far.
- Half-life
- Approximately 60 hours.
- How it's taken
- Oral, in non-clinical use
- Mechanism
- Anabolic (IGF-1 / myostatin)
- Pathways
- Androgen
How RAD-140 works
RAD-140 is a non-steroidal androgen receptor agonist with high receptor affinity and marked tissue selectivity favouring muscle and bone over prostate. It does not aromatise to estradiol or reduce to dihydrotestosterone. It is generally considered one of the more potent SARMs by anabolic effect in preclinical models, which is also why its suppressive and hepatic effects tend to be more pronounced.
What research has looked at
- Preclinical models showed robust increases in lean mass with a wide separation between anabolic and prostatic effects.
- Orally active, unlike injectable androgens.
- It entered human trials for hormone-receptor-positive breast cancer, so some human pharmacokinetic data exist.
Evidence level: Early human data. Only small or early-phase studies in people so far. These are areas studied or reported, not promised effects.
Reported side effects and risks
- It is not approved by any regulator, and its clinical development did not establish efficacy or safety for muscle-building use.
- Multiple published case reports describe severe drug-induced liver injury in RAD-140 users, including prolonged cholestatic hepatitis requiring hospitalisation.
- Marked suppression of endogenous testosterone, with recovery that can take months and is not assured.
- Substantial suppression of HDL cholesterol and adverse lipid shifts.
- The FDA has explicitly warned consumers against SARM-containing products, citing liver injury and increased cardiovascular risk.
- Prohibited at all times under the WADA Prohibited List.
- Grey-market product frequently misidentified or dosed inaccurately on independent testing.
