How ACE-031 works

ACE-031 is a decoy receptor: the extracellular domain of ActRIIB fused to IgG1 Fc, which binds myostatin, activin A, GDF-11 and related ligands in circulation before they can reach cell-surface receptors. This is a ligand-trap approach, mechanistically distinct from bimagrumab, which blocks the receptor itself.

Is ACE-031 FDA approved?

No. ACE-031 is a research compound and not approved by the FDA for human use. Evidence level: early human data. Only small or early-phase studies in people so far.

What is the half-life of ACE-031?

Reported half-life: Roughly 10 to 15 days, typical of an Fc-fusion protein.

How is ACE-031 taken?

Subcutaneous injection in the trial setting.

What side effects have been reported with ACE-031?

Reported in the sources: Trials were discontinued after safety findings including epistaxis, telangiectasia and gum bleeding — consistent with off-target effects on vascular ligands in the TGF-beta family. This is the decisive fact about the compound; Development was terminated and no regulator has approved it. No regulator has approved it, the human evidence base is limited, and material sold under this name is research chemical supply with unverified identity, purity, sterility and dose accuracy; The bleeding signal illustrates a general problem with broad ligand traps: activin family members regulate vascular and haematopoietic processes well beyond muscle; Prohibited at all times under the WADA Prohibited List.
