How Angiotensin 1-7 works

Angiotensin 1-7 is generated chiefly by ACE2 acting on angiotensin II, and signals through the Mas receptor. Mas activation produces vasodilation, anti-fibrotic and anti-inflammatory effects, and improved endothelial nitric oxide production — an axis functionally opposite to the classical ACE/angiotensin II/AT1 arm. The ACE2 connection made it a subject of intense interest during COVID-19.

Is Angiotensin 1-7 FDA approved?

No. Angiotensin 1-7 is a research compound and not approved by the FDA for human use. Evidence level: early human data. Only small or early-phase studies in people so far.

What is the half-life of Angiotensin 1-7?

Reported half-life: Approximately 10 to 30 seconds for the native peptide.

How is Angiotensin 1-7 taken?

Subcutaneous or intravenous infusion in the research setting.

What side effects have been reported with Angiotensin 1-7?

Reported in the sources: No angiotensin 1-7 product has been approved by any regulator despite several clinical programmes. No regulator has approved it, the human evidence base is limited, and material sold under this name is research chemical supply with unverified identity, purity, sterility and dose accuracy; It is degraded within minutes by ACE and other peptidases, so sustained exposure requires infusion or an engineered analogue; Effects on blood pressure and on the renin-angiotensin system generally make unsupervised use hazardous, particularly alongside ACE inhibitors or ARBs; Much of the enthusiasm during the COVID-19 period was mechanistic speculation that did not translate into demonstrated clinical benefit.
